Rhetorical Analysis
We also conducted many studies and discussions on effective and ineffective Web design over the course of this semester. I produced a rhetorical analysis on the Web site for the University of Georgia’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America, in which I argued for and against certain aspects of the organization’s Web page design and layout. The assignment allowed me to fully interact with a Web site that I reference often for meeting times and locations, chapter news, job and internship positions available, etc. My understanding of Web design allowed me to comment on the site’s application of the three main design aspects. While the site demonstrated an effective use of color and content that was easy-to-navigate, there was a need for improved overall presentation on the site. My argument also highlighted the site’s exemplary use of multimedia items to promote interactivity, user feedback and return visitors. The site also does a good job linking and tagging, which further encourages user feedback and ultimately greater Web conversation. The site’s use of conversation between PRSSA members, Grady grads, Grady professors and public relations professionals adds credibility to the site’s content, which is very important.
